Basic Obediene

The Pillar of Canine Communication

🦴Basic Obedience – real life results

At Cura Dog Training we offer an obedience program designed to create balanced, well‑mannered and reliable dogs in real‑life situations.

This is not only teaching commands. It’s about building clear communication, preventing problems before they appear, and creating a calm, respectful daily life with your dog.

The program is built in progressive stages. Every dog starts with the foundation, and from there you can add more depth depending on your dog and your lifestyle.

Stage 1 – The foundation: communication & emotional control

This first stage focuses on teaching you how your dog thinks and communicates.

You will learn how to use:

  • Body posture – How to stand, move and position yourself to transmit calmness, confidence and clear limits, so your dog understands what is acceptable and what is not.

  • Space – When and how to approach, step back, and use distance correctly to prevent conflicts and tension.

  • Voice (and silence) – When speaking helps, and when silence is actually clearer and less stressful for your dog.

Why is this essential?

Most problems don’t appear because a dog doesn’t know commands, but because of poor communication. When a dog doesn’t understand what is expected, it starts making its own decisions: ignoring, rushing ahead, becoming stressed or over‑excited.

This stage helps to reduce anxiety and frustration, set clear boundaries without punishment or confrontation, create a calmer, more receptive dog and a long etc.

Stage 2 – Human language: clear and useful commands

Once communication and respect are established, it´s time to teach the dog our language.

Here we work on commands that are truly useful in daily life, such as:

  • Attention and name recognition

  • Recall (coming when called)

  • Stay and impulse control

  • Proper leash walking

  • And a few more

Why not start with commands only?

With very calm dogs or dogs without behavioral challenges, it can work. However, for many dogs we don’t recommend starting here. Without the previous foundation, commands become mechanical and fragile.

With this structure, the dog wants to cooperate, not just obey.

  • In Stage 1, we learn to understand the dog using gestures, movement, body language and sounds the way dogs naturally communicate.

  • In Stage 2, we make the dog understand us better by teaching verbal cues and gestures, making life easier for the human.

Imagine being able to guide your dog into the car, ask them to step back when opening a door, or manage daily situations calmly with just a few gestures.

That’s the goal.

** Combining Stage 1 and Stage 2 is what we call complete obedience training.

 Stage 3 – Real‑life exposure & control under distractions

This stage is known as deep obedience training. Many dogs behave perfectly at home… and everything falls apart outside.

In this deep obedience stage, we take the training into real‑life situations, where real distractions exist:

  • Other dogs, people and noises

  • Beaches, parks and open spaces

  • Different schedules, energy levels and environments

Why does this make such a big difference?

Because the outside world cannot be controlled. This is where we see whether training is solid or only works in comfortable environments.

This stage helps to:

  • Generalize what the dog has learned

  • Build confidence and self‑control

  • Create a dog you can trust outside the home

⚠️ Deep obedience training can only be done together with complete training — meaning the combination of stages 1, 2 and 3.

  • The first payment will always be made with the first session.
  • The second and third payments can be discussed between the trainer and the owner.

There’s no upper age limit for your pet. You can start from 2 months of age, which is the minimum recommended age for weaning from the mother, up to 10 years of age, as long as your pet’s health allows.

The schedule will be decided together with the owner if it is private.

In simple and complete basic obedience, these will be done in the owner’s home if it’s done privately. In deep obedience, the dog will be trained internally, going to different locations with the trainer.

It will only be necessary for the dog to have a leash, a collar and rewards.
For treats we recommend small pieces of sausage, ham or any type of meat. It is preferable that it is not dry food, since the dog is used to it and is much more excited by those already mentioned.
In case the dog is allergic to some type of food, please let us know beforehand.

It is preferable that yes, because that way everyone can learn at the same time. However, as long as the owner of the dog or the one who will be handling it most often during the day is present, it is sufficient.
